Maria and I have had the privilege of serving with Harlem Church for 18 years. We have two children... David and his wife Elizabeth live in Grand Rapids. Laura is a senior nursing student at Hope College. As young adults, our children continue to be a source of delight to us. I enjoy playing the piano, cheering for the Detroit Tigers in a Yankee fan family, and driving cars. Some day it would be great to own a car just like my first one: a 1968 Blue Camaro Rally Sport 327.

During the years we have been at Harlem, God has grown us as his disciples.

• I know God's love is real. As our congregation has grown to understand and experience more personally the great love God has for us, we have become more tenderhearted toward one another. I have found the fellowship here to be open and caring.
• I know that God's Word is completely trustworthy. In worship I have the privilege of leading our congregation in a study of the Bible. The good news concerning God?s mercy and grace shown to us in Jesus seems always fresh and more amazing.
• I know God uses people. I am thankful for the people God has placed in my life who have encouraged me in my walk with God.

Let's encourage each other to be growing to love and serve the Savior. Pastor John
 

My name is Hilda Westrate and I serve as Ministries Coordinator at Harlem Reformed Church. I am just completing my third year in an official capacity here at Harlem but have been part of the church family for over 20 years. Facilitator is a word I can closely identify with as I serve in the various ministries at Harlem. Some of the ministries I currently am involved with are Children's, Care Group, Fellowship and others.

I count it a privilege and a joy that God has opened the door to this opportunity in my life and love being able to join with many at Harlem who have a hunger and yearning to grow and serve Christ. My desire is to encourage and support: Growth in Christ, Unity in Christ, Excellence in Christ, and going out into the world to share the Love of Christ. I am married to an amazing man who God has used to grow me in all of the most wonderful ways, and am blessed with three beautiful and gifted daughters.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Cor. 5:17

I joined the staff of Harlem in May of 2008 as the Administrative Assistant. I enjoy working with people and the variety of tasks that come before me each day.

I have attended Harlem my entire life. I have two wonderful sons, Noah and Kieran who keep me centered and on the move. Together we enjoy watching movies, going to the beach, eating pizza and playing with our very lovable cats named Gigi and Pebbles who are constant entertainment!
